Studio policy

Lesson requirements

  • New students must be 5 years or older.

  • Parents are welcome but not required to attend the lesson once the student is established in how lessons work and in their practice routine. If attending the lesson, please make arrangements for other children during the lesson so you may focus fully on the lesson.

  • Students must practice/play at least 10-20 mins a day as appropriate to their level, 5-6 days per week, supported by the parent/caregiver. Expect this time to increase as the student advances in difficulty.

  • Students are expected to bring their student materials and notebooks to each lesson.

  • Students are expected to complete weekly tasks and assignments as set by the teacher.

  • Lesson duration is 45 minutes or 60 minutes. Students sitting exams should take 60 minute lessons.

  • Thirty-minute lessons are available only for younger students under the age of 6.

Tuition fees

  • Tuition is based on enrolment not attendance. See policy regarding missed lessons below.

  • The tuition fee is an annualised fee spread over 11 equal monthly instalments payable in advance by automatic payment on the 15th of each month starting on the 15th of January and finishing on the 15th of November. This monthly payment guarantees the student’s place in my studio and covers the costs of lessons and enrolment. Contact the studio for current rates.

  • Quarterly and yearly payments upfront are also available.

  • Annual upfront payments will receive a 10% discount and unlimited reschedules. No refunds are available should the student discontinue lessons during the year. This option best suits long-term, committed students.

Materials

  • Some materials are supplied free of charge but you will be required to purchase core books as directed by the teacher.

  • Students aged 5-6 will generally start with Piano Safari and Friends.

  • Students aged 7-9 will generally start with Piano Safari Level 1.

  • Students aged 10 and over will be assessed on an individual basis.

Lesson schedule

  • Lessons will be scheduled in consultation with the teacher and will remain consistent throughout the year, but may be subject to change at the start of each new year.

  • Changes to the schedule may be permitted as space allows but cannot be guaranteed.

Missed lessons / non-attendance

Terminating lessons

'

  • If you wish to finish lessons, please provide one month's notice by email. Students will continue to receive the lessons they’ve paid for until the end of the monthly cycle when the termination will take effect. Refunds will not be issued regardless of attendance.

Illness in the current health climate

  • If a student is ill or has been ill and is still exhibiting symptoms, please do not attend the lesson. Lessons can be conducted online if the student is well enough.

  • It is preferable for one student to miss one lesson than for the teacher to become ill and have to cancel all lessons.

This policy applies from 1 January 2026 until further notice.
